QR Code Generator
Make a free QR code for a link, text, Wi-Fi password or WhatsApp chat. Pick the colours and size, then save it as PNG or SVG. Everything is made on your own device, so what you type is never uploaded and the code never expires.
Type something above to make your QR code.
How to make a QR code
- Choose what the code should hold: a link or text, a Wi-Fi network, or a WhatsApp chat.
- Fill in the box. The QR code appears while you type.
- Pick a size and colours if you like. Dark code on a light background scans best.
- Save it as PNG for screens and documents, or SVG for printing at any size.
About this tool
A QR code is a square picture that a phone camera can read. People use them on posters, menus, business cards, shop windows and invitations so that others do not have to type a long address.
The codes made here are static. The information is stored inside the picture itself, so the code never expires and does not depend on our website. We do not track scans, and nothing you type is sent to a server. This tool makes standard codes with medium error correction, which means a small scratch or smudge will not stop them from scanning.
Wi-Fi codes let guests join your network by scanning, without typing the password. WhatsApp codes open a chat with your number, with an optional first message already written.
Tips and common problems
- Test before you print. Scan the code with two different phones before it goes on a poster or card.
- Keep strong contrast. A dark code on a light background is safest. Light code on a dark background fails on many scanners.
- Do not print it too small. About 2 cm (an inch) wide is the smallest comfortable size for a short link, and bigger for longer text.
- Use a short link. Short text makes a simpler code that scans faster from far away.
- Leave the white border. The empty margin around the code is part of it. Do not crop it.
- Wi-Fi password changed? Make a new code, because the old code still contains the old password.
Common questions
Is the QR code generator free?
Yes. It is free, there is no signup and no watermark, and you can use the codes for personal or business purposes.
Does the QR code expire?
No. These are static codes, so all the information is inside the picture. They keep working as long as the link or information inside is still valid.
Can I make a QR code for my Wi-Fi?
Yes. Choose the Wi-Fi tab, type the network name and password, and guests can join by scanning with their phone camera.
Why will my QR code not scan?
Usually the code is too small, the colours do not have enough contrast, the white border was cropped, or the text is very long. Make it bigger, use a dark code on a light background, and shorten the text.
How much text can I put in it?
About 200 characters. For longer content, put the text on a web page and make a code for that link.
Is my data uploaded anywhere?
No. The QR code is created in your browser and what you type never leaves your device.
